I grew up as an avid viewer of Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, last year when Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood first debuted on PBS Kids, I was so excited to watch it with Gavin. On this animated show, adorable characters are faced with typical issues preschool aged children face in their daily lives like learning how to master the potty at school and in the community, following daily dressing routines, and overcoming separation anxiety  when caregivers drop them off at school or go away on business trips.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood has been one of our favorite shows to watch together, and as a parent, I had never expected to learn so many simple, yet helpful strategies that make our daily life easier. I have been continually amazed when days later, situations would arise in our family life, and I’d hear Gavin singing the song from the show, or when I’d tuck him into bed and he’d spontaneously rub noses and say, “Ugga Mugga Mom.” We DVR’d all of the episodes, so if he has an accident at school that day, or needs a reminder about what to do in the morning before we leave the house for daycare, I can easily cue up an episode for him to watch to help him through the process. For some reason, the selective attention he exhibits with me is not the same when it comes to my hero, Teacher Harriet.

This year many new Daniel Tiger toys and game were released featuring the characters from this popular show. I was provided with free samples of several Daniel Tiger toys to facilitate this blog post, but any opinions provided are my own. The toys are currently available exclusively at Toys “R” Us.

Daniel Tiger Plush – this soft, 12 inch tall plush toy  speaks 14 different phrases including key songs from the show. Through the velcro opening on the back of the toy, there is also an on/off button, and a place where batteries can be changed if necessary. Batteries are included in the purchase. The toy is soft, great for cuddling, and recommended for kids ages 2 and up. My favorite feature is that even if the child continues to push Daniel’s hand to hear his phrases, he will finish the song or the phrase before speaking the next one.

Daniel Tiger Trolley– The open-air trolley houses Daniel Tiger and his friends. The trolley has a pull-back action feature that allows it to move across the floor while ringing its bell. Children who are enamored with vehicles will be intrigued with this trolley since it can cart the character figures and other toys around in it without difficulty. The trolley arrives with a Daniel Tiger character as well.

Daniel Tigers Neighborhood 3-in-1 Treehouse Playset- this is the largest playset currently available for purchase and features 3 characters,Daniel Tiger, O the Owl and Katerina Kitty Cat included. By pulling back one piece, the treehouse transforms into a space station.  Characters will enjoy swinging on a swing, twirling  on a dance floor, riding the elevator, sliding down the slide, and climbing the stairs. There are a lot of different pretend play pieces included such as a telescope, bookshelf that when flipped over is a rocketship, umbrella, wagon, and couch. There are no decals to attach and batteries come installed. Read a full review of the Daniel Tiger 3-in-1 Treehouse here.

Daniel Tiger Friends Playset – This is a smaller bungalow playset that features Daniel Tiger’s bedroom that can transform into a safari playset. The set also arrives with a small Daniel Tiger character figure, a chair for Daniel to sit in and a bed. This is set is a great entry point toy for Daniel Tiger fans given that it’s compact and portable.

I was provided with these toys free to facilitate this review, any opinions are my own.
