Mansfield Crossing Free Skate in March!

Last night my family and I were invited to a local event, celebrating an indoor, pop-up skating arena at Mansfield Crossing in Mansfield, Massachusetts. For the first three weekends in March on Friday’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s, families just like mine are invited to  skate for free on this special indoor surface.

If you are local to Mansfield, MA, please check out the website www.mansfieldcrossing.com for specific details. There are all sorts of family events scheduled on these days that include live children’s musical performances, face painting, glitter tattoo’s, balloon animals, art activities, an XBox Kinect Station sponsored by Best Buy and horse drawn carriage rides from Side Hill Farm.  Skating is free, but for those who need skates, they can be rented. Mansfield Crossing is a pedestrian friendly outdoor shopping area, featuring stores such as Yankee Candle, Sports Authority, LL Bean, and Ann Taylor Loft.

Sometimes we agree to partake in activities and with a toddler, I’m never sure how he will react.  Pulling into the parking lot, Gavin saw the horse drawn carriage and was screeching with excitement, “Mama Horsey Ride!” Inside, they actually had skates small enough to fit his toddler foot, and he could not wait to try to ice skate. I took a spin myself first and I will say, the surface was not as similar to skating as I thought it would be, and much harder to maneuver than I expected.  However, Gavin, who is obsessed with hockey rinks and all things Zamboni could not have been happier trying his best and so proud of his accomplishment. His enthusiasm and excitement alone made this experience totally worth it. Not to mention, we also got to test drive what he might have thought about skating without any fear of frostbite! Due to the wintry weather, our night was topped off with a snowy  “horsey ride” around the parking lot, with Gavin beaming from ear to ear. If you are in the area, since we haven’t had as much cold weather as expected bring the skates and helmets (which in all honesty I wish we brought ourselves) and enjoy this great family experience.

My family and I were provided with complimentary skate rentals, food and a horse drawn carriage ride while attending this event. The opinions are my own.
