Puzzle and Dragons Super Mario Edition Demo and Review

Puzzle and Dragons Super Mario Edition for Nintendo 3DSDisclosure: Gavin and I were provided with a trip to New York City to NintendoWorld.

We saw way more than a sneak peak of the Puzzle and Dragons Super Mario Edition Demo for Nintendo 3DS, and spent some extended time being some of the first to ever play the full version of the game.

Gavin is an avid Mario Kart fan and WiiU has taught us a lot about his personality. We’ve tried playing several other games and he is completely enamored with Mario and Luigi. Just this week he was allowed to design his own constellation at school, and as you can see here, and as you can see below he’s got Mario Kart on the mind and in his heart.

We had an opportunity to try out the new Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Edition and Puzzle and Dragons- Z game for Nintendo 3DS at NintendoWorld in NYC.

This brain teaser type game includes a lot of strategy, and is reminiscent of, but way more intuitive than Bejewled Blitz. First, players assemble their team leader, choosing Mario or Luigi. Then, they create a team and attempt to beat the bad guys, including Bowser who yet again has captured Princess Peach and is holding her hostage in the Mushroom Kingdom. They defeat the bad guys by re-arranging orbs into a variety of horizontal and vertical rows to score points.

Puzzle and Dragons also includes 2 games in 1, as it also features Puzzle and Dragons-Z. We spent much more time playing the Super Mario edition. While Gavin initially started just randomly maneuvering his stylus around the screen, he very quickly began playing with strategy. Even for young kids like him who can’t read, this game has something for everyone and a quick learning curve.

Here’s a YouTube video highlighting our trip and some additional features of the game.
