Red Light, Green Light by International Playthings

What better way to teach kids the concept of stop and go or what to do when crossing the street either by foot or bicycle at a traffic intersection, than to use the game Red Light, Green Light by International Playthings. It’s a tabletop spin on and old, but effective playground game. Based on commands from the battery operated traffic light, up to three players repeatedly push a button to move their car closer to the traffic light. The computer spouts out commands for Red Light, Green Light, while the corresponding color lights up on the traffic light. If a player pushes their car forward on a “red light” command instead of stopping, the stop light knows this and will ask the player to move their car back to start again. The player who follows all the directions and drives their car safely to the traffic light first, wins!

There are many concepts that children need to learn in life than can directly impact their safety, such as learning how to cross the street, either when walking or riding their bicycles, or simply knowing to “freeze” when you say stop while walking in a parking lot or in the mall. What better way to practice the concept of stop and go playing such a simple, intuitive game so kids can really gain a sense of success with such a real life, practical skill.

International Playthings provided this game for review. The opinions in this post are my own.
